An interactive assembly about suicide prevention, mental health, and finding hope.

Glenn was the kind of friend everyone should have. A fantastic listener who loved to laugh and find adventures, he’d drop everything to help a friend in need.

Unfortunately, there were darker parts of Glenn’s personality -- parts that he tried to hide, even from himself. He battled depression but tried to cope by using drugs. He took self-destructive risks that got him arrested. Then one day just before Thanksgiving, he ended his own life . . . leaving his mom, sister, and friends to grieve the man he could have been.

But nobody’s story has to end like Glenn’s. It’s possible to find glimmers of hope, even when life looks bleak and the future’s hard to find.

  • We can take action to improve our own mental health in small but powerful ways.
  • We can remember WHY life is worth living.
  • We can get help when we need it: for ourselves or for a friend.

Nobody said life was easy. But it’s worth living, even when purpose comes on the other side of struggle. Through the cautionary tale of Glenn -- along with hopeful stories of young adults who emerged from mental illness with renewed joy -- your students will learn that there’s always a reason to live. Always.
